Film Series Continues Apace with Alvah Bessie and Pride Feature
In our ongoing online film discussion series, dozens of ALBA community members gathered on June 12 for our Pride Month feature, Alejandro Marín’s film Te estoy amando locamente (Love & Revolution, 2023), which tells the story of LGBTQ repression and resistance in southern Spain in the years following Franco’s death. Expertly facilitating the discussion was Seville-based scholar, activist, and organizer Carmen Hernández-Ojeda. On July 5, scholar Randal Scamardo led a lively discussion of Jaime Camino’s 1968 film España otra vez (Spain Again), written by Camino with Román Gubern and Lincoln Brigade veteran Alvah Bessie, who appears in a supporting role. Scamardo is the translator and editor of Bessie’s Spanish Civil War Notebooks. Both film events were moderated by Sebastiaan Faber, and can be viewed at ALBA’s YouTube channel.
