In addition to the November celebrations in Berkeley, ALBA has an event-filled fall planned.

Teaching Antifascism in K-12 Education: An Online Round Table

On September 15, starting at 7:30 PM Eastern Time, ALBA will host the second in its series of online roundtables on teaching the history of US antifascism. While the first event, held in April, discussed challenges in higher education, this time the focus will be on kindergarten through 12th grade. In addition to ALBA’s longtime education partner Rich Cairn, of Massachusetts, and ALBA board member Sebastiaan Faber, the event will feature a group of K-12 teachers.

Natasha Carroll-Ferrary Leads Legacy Giving Workshop

Are you considering your legacy and wondering how you may support ALBA’s work for decades to come? Join ALBA’s online workshop on legacy giving on October 21 at 6 PM Eastern Time. Leading the event will be Natasha Carroll-Ferrary, an LA-based estate attorney and daughter of the late Peter Carroll.

Jo Labanyi Gives Susman Lecture in November

Join us on November 19 for the annual Susman Lecture. Established in memory of ALBA co-founder Bill Susman, this year’s lecture will be delivered online by renowned author and ALBA Executive Committee member Jo Labanyi, who this fall will be publishing her major new book “What Have You Done for Victory?” A Cultural History of the Spanish Civil War. (Time to be determined; watch our channels for updates.)

Grandchildren Invite Community to Join Musical Event in December

The 2024 Grands gathering in New York City.

This year’s annual December gathering in New York City of Lincoln Brigade “Grands”—roughly the third generation of descendants—will have a musical theme. Tentatively titled Music of the Movement, the December 12 gathering hopes to highlight the importance of music to our shared history. As part of this initiative, the organizers are inviting everyone to share a brief video of themselves singing sections of the Internationale. These recordings will be edited into a video montage showcasing multiple generations of the ALBA community standing together to honor the legacy of the volunteers and the important work needed today.
