ALBA Film Series: Pride Month & Alvah Bessie
ALBA Film Series Celebrates Pride Month
ALBA’s popular online film discussion series continues this summer. On June 12, as part of Pride Month, we’ll discuss Alejandro Marín’s 2023 feature Te estoy amando locamente (Love & Revolution), which discusses LGBTQ repression and resistance activism in southern Spain in the years following Franco’s death. Joining us will be Seville-based scholar, activist, and organizer Carmen Hernández-Ojeda, along with ALBA’s Sebastiaan Faber. The online event will start at 4pm Eastern time; registrants are encouraged to view an introduction and the film beforehand. On July 5
Film Series Continues with Alvah Bessie and Jaime Camino
Join us on July 5 for a discussion of Jaime Camino’s 1968 film España otra vez (Spain Again), written by Camino with Román Gubern and Lincoln Brigade veteran Alvah Bessie. The film follows an American doctor who served in the Spanish war of 1936 and returns to Spain thirty years later, during the Franco dictatorship, to retrace his steps. Leading the discussion will be scholar Randal Camardo, the translator and editor of Bessie’s Spanish Civil War Notebooks.
