Irish President Sends a Salud to Max Levitas
Max Levitas is a veteran of the Battle of Cable Street — the infamous 1936 clash between Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists, anti-fascist demonstrators and London police — and the brother of International Brigade volunteer Maurice Levitas who was imprisoned in San Pedro. On the occasion of Max’s 100th birthday on May 31, 2015, the president of Ireland Michael D. Higgins sent Max a letter of appreciation and a salud. Max was presented with the letter by International Brigade Memorial Trust Ireland Secretary Manus O’Riordan last month.
