80th anniversary event at Guadalajara, October 28
In the foggy morning, we were greeted by the Mayor of Torija and the President of Guadalajara Memorial in front of the town hall. The town awarded Freedom Medals to delegates honoring IBers. This was the same spot where IBers gathered to receive welcome from the town 79 years ago.
Then we rode buses on the road following the 1937 Guadalajara battlefield to a hill top overlooking the town of Brihuega in the fog. After lunch with the Mayor, sun appeared and we headed to Fuencarral Cemetery. A new panel explaining the memorials and plaques was unveiled there.
The last stop of the day was at the University City in Madrid to visit the memorial of the 75th anniversary of the IB.
