New opera focuses on death of the poet Federico Garcia Lorca

A new opera, titled Ainandamar, about the assassinated poet Federico Garcia Lorca, will open in the Teatro Real on July 8th. According to an article in ANSA med,

The opera tells the story of Lorca’s life through the memories of his best friend and greatest interpreter, Margarita Xiurgu, who was banned by Franco and died in exile in Montevideo in 1969.

Lorca was killed at dawn on 19 August 1936 by pro-Franco falangists.
