Café Gijón, favorite haunt of Hemingway, Dali, to be sold

Café Gijón

Café Gijón, the famed salon in Madrid which was often visited by famous individuals such as Ernest Hemingway, Salvador Dali, Eva Gardner, Federico Garcia Lorca and Truman Capote and which survived the Spanish Civil War, Franco’s regime, and the encroachment of Starbucks, might now be sold due to Spain’s financial difficulties.

As one writer sitting at the café told a wire news service, “The time we writers, actors and musicians spent here is part of the story of Spanish culture…How are they going to kill off this place, which is like an academy?”
