75th anniversary of Quinto and Belchite
Alan Warren sends along an announcement about the forthcoming 75th anniversary of the Battles of Quinto and Belchite:
This is an advanced announcement to let members know that the weekend of September 1st and 2nd 2012 there will be the 75th anniversary commemoration of the Battles of Quinto and Belchite to be held principally in the town of Quinto.
Quinto will be commemorated on Saturday 1st of September with a visit to Purburrel Hill and the church and an explanation of the Battle. In the evening there will be the showing of the film “With the Abraham Lincoln Brigade in Spain” by Henri Cartier Bresson and places located in the film close to Quinto will also be visited.
Sunday 2nd September will be devoted to the Battle of Belchite.
This event will open to all who wish to attend. There is a train station at Quinto and train times and connections can be given from either Barcelona or Madrid. We recommend that visitors come to Quinto on the 31st August and leave either Sunday night or Monday morning. A coach will take visitors to the locations around Quinto and Belchite on both days. Please be warned that Purburrel Hill is not easy for older people to climb, however. But that would be the only caveat. There will be a small charge for the coach and people are welcome to make their own way to the event. If people require assistence in booking and accommodation then please contact me. Spaces may be limited on the coach if reservations are not made soon enough. Accommodation in the town can also be reserved on request.
