James Yates with Jordi Torrent

The Instituto Cervantes in New York alerts us to a terrific event to take place on April 12, at 7pm:  “Tales from the Lincoln Brigade,” a round table discussion to present  the first books of the Biblioteca Afro-Americana de Madrid (African-American Library of Madrid, BAAM): the Spanish translations of Langston Hughes’s dispatches from the Spanish Civil War, along with sections from his poetry and memoirs, and the well-known memoir From Mississippi to Madrid by James Yates. The first one includes the work of Hughes dedicated to Spain. Participants of this talk will be moderated by Mireia Sentís, and will feature film segments from documentaries by James Fernández (Facing Fascism: New Yorkers Remember the Spanish Civil War), Javier Rioyo (Extranjeros de sí mismos), and Jordi Torrent, who taped several interviews of James Yates.
