A song for Bob Steck

July 15, 2010

David Rovics has written a song honoring Lincoln vet Bob Steck. Read the lyrics at Anti-War Songs / Canzoni Contro la Guerra or listen to it here:

They say people get conservative
The older that they age
They say that being radical
Is just a youthful stage
But the finest communist I’ve known
Lived to 95
And he spent his whole life striving
For democracy to thrive

My parents, Benjamin and Pauline Spiegel, were friends of Bob Steck as well as other members and supporters of the Lincoln Brigade. I attended summer camps owned by Steck from the early 1950’s through the late 1960’s.
